Life At 22 Weeks Pregnant…
So here’s where this pregnant Mama is at in life…
I’m sitting here writing at my kitchen table while my 3yr old is screaming from his time out chair. We were taking a mommy & son walk to Starbucks to buy “RoRo coffee” (hot cocoa) as a little treat. Well we walk all the way there and he decides he wants to buy all the lunch boxes on display. Like all of them. Upon hearing “mean mommy” tell him no he promptly turned into the incredible hulk. So I calmly grabbed his hand and walked out the door and explained to him why he was no longer getting RoRo coffee. At which point he then proceeded to hit mommy about 10 times on the walk home all the while screaming and crying.
What in the world happened to my perfectly precious angel? I want him back. We never had the “terrible twos”..in fact we are just now starting to hit some funky evil 3 1/2 stage. Which I have to be honest makes me sad. I know it’s normal to go through this stage…but it sucks. People have always exclaimed in wonder and amazement how sweet and respectful and kind our little angel is and every time my heart puffed up with pride. And then BOOM! I have a son who hits me and stomps his foot while attempting to make a mean face. But I would still say that 4/5th of the time he is my little precious angel. It’s just that 1/5th of the day that makes me take deep breaths and wish I could have a glass of Cabernet.
Moving on…
Christmas came and went in a flash. Is it just me or I swear the days and years are getting shorter and shorter. So much prep for the holidays and then you blink and they’re gone. Christmas is so much fun with a 3yr old. Everything is exciting. Christmas tree shopping, driving around looking at Christmas lights, shopping, etc.
And RoRo would love to lay in bed snuggling and say “Let’s talk about Christmas”. So we would lay there and talk about everything that happens Christmas eve and Christmas day. We’ve incorporated so many family traditions that I grew up with in my family and mixed them in with Dominic’s traditions and they have now become our family traditions. And I love it. Christmas Eve we opened up a new pair of pajamas and then left cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for the reindeers.
It’s a total must that the kids sleep together in the same room just like I did with my siblings growing up, so Xander made a bed on the floor next to RoRo’s bed. We then promptly wrapped all of our presents that night which takes sooo long. But that’s what my parents did. It’s just more fun that way. Christmas morning the boys woke up early of course (6am to be exact) and yelled for us until we woke up. We finally stumbled out of bed and went to their bedroom where they can’t come out of until we say so. It’s so cute hearing them wiggle around in excitement. We opened the door and…what?! OMG!…there were reindeer tracks all over the floor! We all sat around on the floor and opened up our stockings one at a time and then took a much needed coffee break. Dom made a coffee and nutmeg concoction and it was so bomb. (Side note: my husband is always making the most bomb concoctions). The kids at this point were going cray cray because they wanted to open presents. My parents did the same thing…they would even stop mid present opening to eat breakfast…and for a kid that is pure torture lol. We took turns opening presents one at a time while everyone watched. It drags it out and I love it because it makes the whole process last longer.
We celebrated our Lucero Christmas a week early because we were leaving for vacation to visit my in-laws in New Mexico for the holidays. (My husband’s family is so rad). We drove all the way to New Mexico in one day which is such a long time for a toddler and a teenager. But we left at the butt crack of dawn so they slept the first 4 hours which was nice. Vacation was nice and long. We were gone I believe 12 days which is the longest we’ve been gone for. A 24hr stomach bug ran through our family which was super awesome. Roland threw up the evening before we left. I threw up all night Christmas Eve and Dominic had other shenanigans Christmas night. Lame. But at least it was a super quick 24 hour bug. However Roland also got pink eye the day before we were going to leave. What the heck? Then we get home and Dominic gets influenza. Like hard core flu virus up in here. Roland and I both started getting flu symptoms so we took Tamiflu and it was gone within 24 hours. Then we were healthy for a whole week maybe before the next sickness hit our home. Dom and I both got Haemophilus Influenzae (I literally can’t even pronounce it) not to be confused or connected with influenza. Luckily Roro was vaccinated for it when he was a baby (HIB vaccine) or else he would have gotten it and it’s pretty bad for little ones. How does one even get this weird bacteria anyways?! That lasted 10 days from the time we finally got diagnosed and on antibiotics. We have now all been sickness free for about 5 days…5 glorious days.
That was literally my kitchen counter and I even had to have a fever and medicine log for the family. And this was even before the crazy HIB struck. Want to hear something so sad and lame? I keep changing the title of this blog from “Life at 18 weeks pregnant” to “…20 weeks pregnant”…and now to “22 weeks pregnant”. My feature image for this blog post of the fam-bam is literally from a month and half ago because that’s when I started to write. This sickness has set us back, to say the least, in more ways then one. Besides my blog being put on the back burner everything else seems to be piling up. I literally still have “Reindeer tracks” on my living room floor. No joke.
Moving on…
Somewhere in the cracks of sickness…to health…to sickness Dom and Xander have been doing lots of dirt bike riding on their new toys. RoRo is so obsessed and wants a motorcycle so badly. Xander actually bought Roland a motocross outfit so he could be like his two heros Daddy and Xander.
Another cool thing that I did somewhat recently was Dom’s job hired me as a food stylist for a Fox Sports Nascar commercial. I had to make white trash/tail gate party food. Here are a couple of pics…
Now I know they aren’t glamorous but they weren’t supposed to be. I was also hired before the holidays for a Sour Patch Kids commercial to make tons and tons and tons of gingerbread cookies. That was lots of fun and lots of stress.
We are in the process of packing to move into a new home to accommodate our ever growing clan. Moving sucks. Enough said.
So much more going on in this crazy awesome life I live but if I don’t hit the post button soon then I’m going to be 40 weeks pregnant before I finish this blog. And so with that I will say goodnight and I love you all.
Until next time…
Huggles & A Trio of Kisses,
Jaime
P.S. I did indeed hit the post button 4 weeks after I was 40 weeks pregnant!
